This week we had the opportunity to hear from Jessica Rojas, environmentalist and activist who spoke about her experience at Standing Rock and details regarding the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline. If you were unable to attend, or would like to review the information Jessica presented, she graciously has provided us access to her work. Below is a link to her presentation.
We are diving in to Unit 3: Class - Poverty & Wealth in the United States. To start, we wrote about our initial ideas/social construction of knowledge as it regards the words poverty and wealth. We collected our ideas, and questions that we would like to explore in this unit. Click on the following link to the prompts to respond to in your Composition Notebook.
This week we took time to reflect on the very important conversation involving the 2016 election. We explored our own political typologies, starting with the Pew Research quiz found here: http://www.people-press.org/quiz/political-typology/group/5c035939 .
We then discussed our results. Finally, we ended the week finishing off our Ability unit by finishing the first three steps of the research process with the annotated bibliography. Resources: How to cite from different sources - CLICK HERE.
This week we started the Americans With Disabilities Act jigsaw. In groups you tackled the tough language of the actual law. In your notebooks you recorded the expert summary of one of the sections of the law, taught to you by another classmate. Below are the two handouts needed for this activity.

This week we dove deeper into our study of our 2nd unit on Ability. We explored different vocabulary and thought and wrote about how our own social construction of knowledge about ability and disability were formed, as well as discussed the impact of these words.
