Aimee Jo is a high school English and College and Career Exploration teacher. She has been teaching for four years, but this is her third year at Franklin High School. She is also certified in English to speakers of other languages (ESOL). Aimee graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a Masters of Education in Teaching and Curriculum. She strives to create a learning environment that is student-centered and culturally relevant with a focus on social justice. She believes every person has a story to tell and a voice that deserves to be heard.
"I begin my teaching with the understanding that anyone who has lived has stories to tell...My curriculum uses students' lives as critical texts--we mine for stories and celebrate poetry, and analyze through essays that affirm their right to a place in society." -Linda Christensen, 2009) Shawnté Hines is a high school Language Arts teacher at Franklin High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in English Literature from California State University, San Bernardino, and spent her junior year studying art and linguistics at the University of Hawai'i. She began her teaching career serving a beautifully diverse community of learners in Southern California. After teaching for 6 years, she went on to earn her Master’s of Education in Teaching and Curriculum at the University of Oregon. She began teaching in Portland in 2013.
Ms. Hines values working with a diverse group of learners, and considers herself a student as much as a teacher. What drives her teaching is a belief in the curiosity, creativity, and potential of every student to succeed. She bases her teaching on the philosophy that learning is a communal activity, and that all voices need to be heard, all people seen in order for everyone to learn and grow. |
